Crowds expected for Family Day
Chadron State College is gearing up for one of its busiest weekends of the year, as students’ relatives travel to campus for the annual Family Day festivities.
A wide array of activity is set for the annual event. Expected to attract the largest crowds is the Chadron State College Rodeo on Friday through Sunday and the Eagles’ home-opener football game against Angelo State University Rams on Saturday.
The rodeo at the Dawes County Fairgrounds has 476 entries from the 14 colleges and universities of the Central Rocky Mountain Region. The football game at Elliott Field will feature introductions of more than 125 players, 14 cheerleaders, and their parents.
A number of alumni activities are set for the weekend, including the alumni office’s tailgate party near Sparks Hall prior to the football game. This year’s rodeo will feature a reunion of past CSC cowboys and cowgirls. Graduates of CSC’s mathematics department also are planning a reunion.
The schedule has several items set for Saturday morning, including the music department’s pancake breakfast at Memorial Hall and three activities at the Student Center: photos with Elmo Eagle, football jersey rental and horse-drawn campus tours.
CSC is making a special break from tradition this year by not presenting Family Tree Awards to families with more than three generations of alumni -- a move intended to pay tribute to the award recipients of years past.
