Chadron State College’s two community music groups, the Chadron Community Band and Chadron Community Chorus, are forming for the fall semester.

The groups will again be led by a pair of CSC music faculty members. Dr. Una Taylor has conducted the chorus for 5½ years and Dr. Adam Lambert is beginning his second season as director of the band.

“It’s going to be another fun semester,” Taylor said. “We are looking forward to seeing our returning members and are again extending an invitation to other community members who enjoy singing and playing music. It’s always a pleasure to bring together people from so many walks of life for a musical performance.”

Before the music starts, the groups are inviting members and other interested musicians to bring a favorite dish and enjoy hamburgers and lemonade for an annual potluck picnic. It is set for 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 23, at Chadron’s Wilson Park. Rehearsals for the band will begin Tuesday, Aug. 30, and the choir’s first practice will be Thursday, Sept. 1. Participants are being asked to pay their $20 registration fee at the first rehearsal.

The groups will rehearse each week, Tuesdays for the band and Thursdays for the choir.

The two groups will combine for a holiday concert Dec. 4, and the band has two other dates on its fall performance schedule. It will join the CSC Wind Symphony and the newly formed Alumni Band for a concert to celebrate CSC’s centennial on homecoming, Saturday, Oct. 1. The community band will converge with the Wind Symphony again for the fall concert Friday, Oct. 28.
