LINCOLN, Neb. -- Gov. Dave Heineman has proclaimed October as Nebraska State College System Month and encouraged students and their parents to visit Chadron State, Peru State or Wayne State College.

Presenting the proclamation, Lt. Gov. Rick Sheehy said, “It is important for high school graduates to continue their education. Students today need more than a high school diploma and the state colleges provide a wide-range of degree options.”

NSCS Chancellor Stan Carpenter said, “Chadron, Peru and Wayne State Colleges focus on providing access to students seeking a high quality and affordable educational experience. Faculty and staff are committed to engaging students in a personal college experience that helps them achieve their goals and aspirations.”

NSCS Board of Trustees Vice-Chair Michelle Suarez recognizes the importance of students choosing the right college.  She said, “We invite and urge our prospective students to visit one or more of the three Nebraska State Colleges. You will find beautiful campuses with outstanding faculty and state of the art facilities. The Nebraska State Colleges provide an engaging, quality education at an incredible value. In the NSCS, we put students first.”

During October, NSCS Admissions staff will visit Nebraska high schools to assist students with the application process for Chadron, Peru and Wayne State Colleges. Students and parents are encouraged to check with their school counselors regarding the scheduled visits.

Students who take a campus tour in October and apply for admission at Chadron, Peru or Wayne State College for fall semester 2012 will be eligible to win an iPad2 (one at each college). Students who visit one of the state colleges, take a campus tour during October and subsequently enroll in the fall 2012 will also be eligible for an $800 bookstore gift certificate – one at each college.
