Gov. Dave Heineman appointed Bob Engles of Auburn to the Nebraska State College System Board of Trustees to complete the term of Floyd Vrtiska of Table Rock, who resigned his appointment. Engles’ appointment is effective until Jan. 1, 2013. He will serve on the Enrollment and Marketing Committee.

“I am excited about being on the NSCS Board of Trustees because the state colleges are vital to our rural areas. Many people don’t realize the critical role the state colleges have in promoting the cultural and educational development throughout Nebraska,” Engles said.

Engles added that he brings a commitment to the business and economic development of small towns and that the state colleges have an important role continuing and strengthening their outreach into the business community in Nebraska.

When asked about his role on the board, Engles said that he plans to be a strong advocate for the state colleges because they are doing great things for local areas and the state.

“Bob will be a valuable asset to the NSCS Board. I got to know Bob while I served as President of Peru State College. Bob’s enthusiasm for the growth and accomplishments of PSC and the NSCS was apparent whenever we spoke.  As a community and business leader, Bob brings an important perspective to the Nebraska State Colleges,” said NSCS Chancellor Stan Carpenter.

Engles is a graduate of Peru State. He is the owner of Engles Agency in Auburn where he lives with his wife, Wendy, a teacher in the Auburn Schools. He has two daughters and three grandchildren living in the Auburn area.

The Nebraska State College System serves nearly 9,000 students through three geographically diverse institutions. Combined, the three Colleges offer more than 200 degree, certificate and pre-professional programs that are accessible on the campuses, via the Internet and in several locations throughout the state. With more than 250 credentialed faculty members and 50,000 successful graduates, the Nebraska State College System provides significant human and intellectual capital that contributes to the current and future strength of the State of Nebraska.
