Milestones

Dr. Don Witte of York was named Yorkfest King during a luncheon Sept. 9. Witte retired in 2010 after practicing optometry 43 years in York. Through the years, he has been elected to the York City Council, appointed to the York Planning Commission, is a past president of the York County Development Corporation and served on the Board of Nebraska Optometric Association.

Gina Doughty joined the faculty of Centura High School at Cairo, Neb., as a mathematics teacher this fall.

Dr. Joseph Tuma 1995, who attended Chadron State College as part of the Rural Health Opportunities Program, is board certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease, interventional cardiology, vascular medicine and endovascular interventions. His achievements include recent recognition by Yale University researchers for excellent patient outcomes with heart catheterization at  Rapid City Regional Hospital. Rapid City Regional Hospital was one of 15 hospitals in the country chosen for the study.

Robyn (Frauen) Johnston 1996 joined the faculty of Maywood Public Schools this fall. She is the school librarian and teaches eighth-grade English and literature.

Dr. Nada N. Berry 1998 has joined the faculty at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine as an assistant professor of plastic surgery. She also is a member of SIU HealthCare, the medical school’s practice group. Berry completed a hand surgery fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. this year. She completed her residency in plastic surgery at SIU in 2010 and her medical degree at Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis in 2004. She is married to James Berry and has one child.

Kristi (Mehlhoff) Ritter 1999 of Longmont, Colo., accepted a job as the communications and community outreach coordinator for the Town of Firestone in June 2011. She is in charge of communications and public relations, social media and website management, event planning and grant writing.

Travis O’Gorman 1999, District 12 judge, was featured in the Chadron Record on Oct. 4. In the article, O’Gorman credits the late Dr. George Watson, CSC justice studies professor, for providing inspiration for his chosen career.

Dr. Megan (Cada) Faltys 2002 recently joined Alegent Health Clinic in Clarkson and Howells and will also is on call in the emergency room at Memorial Hospital in Schuyler. She is specializing in providing continuing and comprehensive care for all members of the family, including health maintenance and preventive services.

Nathan Liess 2006 joined the faculty of Raymond Central High School this fall. He is the head high school football coach and teaches elementary physical education. Prior to his current position, he taught one year at Gering and four years at Sutherland.

Corey Wasserburger 2007 joined the Lincoln firm of  Johnson, Flodman, Guenzel & Widger in September 2011 after clerking with the firm for several years.  Wasserburger’s primary focus areas include domestic relations and custody issues. Wasserburger graduated from the Nebraska College of Law this year and recently passed the Nebraska Bar Exam.

Ashley Kitt 2008 of Central City was sworn in as a member of the Nebraska State Bar Association on Sept. 20 during a ceremony in the Rotunda of the Nebraska State Capitol in Lincoln. Kitt graduated from the Nebraska College of Law in Lincoln in May and passed the Nebraska Bar Exam this summer. Kitt is employed with Svehla, Thomas, Rauert and Grafton P.C., with law offices in York, Seward and Aurora.

Julie Hamburger 2010 of Alliance was sworn in as a District 12 probation officer Sept. 28 during a ceremony at the Nebraska State Capitol. Prior to the ceremony, she had worked in the Alliance office for 16 months. She works as a blended officer, handling Box Butte County’s juvenile cases as well as pre-sentence investigations and some adult cases.

Bryson Kennedy 2010 joined the faculty of Maywood Public Schools this fall. He is teaching industrial arts and is an assistant coach for the high school and junior high football teams.

Mike 2008 and Megan 2009 Spargo of Chadron welcomed Molly on Aug. 12. She joins older sisters Clara and Abigael,

Casey 2006 and Tami (Spahn) 2005 Fosher of Chadron welcomed Kreighton Jae on Aug. 31.

Jarrod and Angela (Peterson) 1999 Allen of Kearney welcomed daughter Allison on May 30. She joins sister Lilli and brother Lukes.

Jeffry 2005 and Michele (Gipfert) 2005 Schwindt  of Omaha welcomed Jaxon William on Sept. 6. He joins siblings Ashton, Bradon and Landon.

Todd and Kelly (Koza) 1999 Moran of Fort Collins, Colo., welcomed Ryder William on Oct. 9.

Deaths

Lorraine Beguin Kutschara died Sept. 27 at Hay Springs.

Henry "Hank" Oltmanns 1946 of Albuquerque, N.M., died June 15.

Yvonne Irene Davidson of Scottsbluff and Sterling, Colo., died Sept. 19.

Ronald Kenneth Sides of Bridgeport died Oct. 4.

Frank "Wally" Sande 1960 of Bemidji, Minn., died Sept. 16.

Anne Hostert 1987 of Sidney died Sept. 8.

Dr. Everett Thompson 1953 died Oct. 5 in Wichita, Kan.

Dolores Jean Vossler 1984 died Oct. 1 at Friend.

David Noble 1991 died Oct. 16 at Chadron.
