A total of 109 people gathered at Chadron State College’s Elliott Field for "Let's Jump," a national effort to set a record Tuesday, Oct. 11.

The activity, which is part of First Lady Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move” campaign against childhood obesity, is an attempt to break the Guinness Book of World Records entry for the number of people doing jumping jacks in a 24-hour period.

The record going into the event was 20,000 people. CSC’s 109 jumpers will be added to the national total in the record-breaking effort, and organizers expect to find out Wednesday if they were successful.

Witnesses closely monitored the activity at CSC, which required participants to simultaneously complete one minute of jumping jacks. CSC’s Health, Physical Education and Recreation Department organized the effort on campus.

Dawn Brammer, one of the HPER faculty members, said CSC became involved to help promote the importance of fitness, both locally and nationally.
