Wind Symphony joining younger musicians for concert

The Chadron State College Wind Symphony is again joining bands from Chadron’s high school and middle school for a band extravaganza. The three bands will be in concert Thursday, March 18, at CSC’s Memorial Hall at 7 p.m.

About 200 students will be involved in the concert, with individual performances and a combined effort from the three groups.

The concert will feature a number of popular pieces, including Shostakovich’s “Festive Overture,” “Rolling Thunder” by Henry Fillmore, and “Scenes from the Louvre” by Norman Dello Joio. Also, clarinet and flute soloists will perform works by Mozart and Weber. The grand finale, a combined piece by all three groups, is a march titled “Joyous Spirit.”

The bands’ first combined concert was arranged three years ago to give the high school an opportunity to display its district music contest material and the college group to perform its current musical repertoire. The concert has since become tradition.
