Chadron State College’s Galaxy Series of fine arts and cultural events will get under way this month with the music of Valentina Lisitsa, a Ukrainian-born concert pianist with a long list of achievements.

Lisitsa, whose repertoire ranges from Bach and Mozart to Shostakovich and Bernstein, will perform at Memorial Hall on Monday, Sept. 20, at 7 p.m.

According to promotional material, critics have described Lisitsa as a “bona fide angel playing” and an “electrifying” pianist. The virtuoso began playing the instrument at age 3 and performed her first solo recital at age 4.

Lisitsa moved to the United States and became a U.S. citizen after obtaining formal training from the Lysenko School of Music and the Kiev Conservatory. She now lives in North Carolina.

Her accomplishments include a recording project with the London Symphony which features pieces by Sergei Rachmaninoff, along with numerous appearances in Europe, Asia, South America and the United States.

She has amassed an orchestral repertory of more than 40 different concerti, having performed all of Rachmaninoff’s pieces and taken on the task of recording all of Beethoven’s 32 piano sonatas. She has recorded eight CDs and three independently released DVDs, including the best-selling set of Chopin’s 24 Etudes which held the No. 1 spot on Amazon’s music video list.

Tickets may be obtained by contacting the CSC Box Office at 308-432-6360 or boxoffice@csc.edu.
