Theatre program reaches nearly 2,000 children in tour
A program by the Chadron State College theatre program and the Chadron Public Library provided a live theatre experience for about 1,900 children during a tour late this fall.
Through a partnership with the Chadron Public Library, the CSC theatre program presented a touring production of its adaptation of the book “Ounce, Dice, Trice” by Alastair Reid. With stops at elementary schools of Hay Springs, Gordon-Rushville, Hemingford, Alliance, Crawford, and Harrison, the CSC troupe performed for an estimated 1,200 youngsters. Those stops were followed by a performance coordinated by Chadron library director Rosella Tesch in Memorial Hall for Chadron School district children, including those of both city and rural attendance centers. In all, the CSC Theatre group provided educational theatre outreach for approximately, 1,900 young audience members.
The adaptation is the first ever completed of the renowned book through the courtesy of New York Review Books and the author, Alastair Reid, who granted permission for this presentation.
The tour was a project of the CSC Children’s Theatre Workshop, a course directed by faculty member Roger Mays. The project combined both performance and course credit for enrolled theatre students who both adapted the script for performance and prepared a study guide to enhance elementary student outcomes for the full appreciation of the performance.
The members of the workshop are Travis Beguin of Rushville, Shalee Jones of Minatare, Jessica Van Cleave of Rapid City, S.D., Amanda Pintore of Omaha, Shannon Smay of Sidney, Amber Nightingale of Mitchell, Erin Neal of Crawford, Anna Avila of Loveland, Colo., Angela Heesacker of Hay Springs, Angela Stransky of Scottsbluff, Ryan Helton of Grand Island, Katie Curtis of Custer, S.D., and HeatherAnn Hicks of Valentine.
