Chadron State College will get a jump on the Irish spirit when a music group comes to Memorial Hall. Slide, an Irish group that meshes traditional music from their country with modern musical notions, will perform Wednesday, Feb. 17, in Memorial Hall at 7:30 p.m.

The five-member group has attracted much acclaim for their singing, writing and style of music which includes sensitive whistle harmonies and high-powered strings. The band features Eamonn DeBarra on flute and keyboard, Daire Brocken on fiddle and guitar, dancer David Curley on vocals and guitar, Mick Broderick on bouzouki and Aogan Lynch on the concertina.

Slide formed in 1999 to perform in pubs and Irish Music Magazine named the group the best newcomer in 2001. In 2005, the group won the Young Musicwide Award from the Arts Council of Ireland. The latter honor encourages young people to pursue professional careers in traditional Irish music, chamber music and jazz and gives promoters access to the best Irish talents.

The concert is an event of the CSC Galaxy Series of fine arts and cultural programs. To purchase advance tickets call the CSC box office at 308-432-6360 2-6 p.m. Monday-Friday or e-mail boxoffice@csc.edu. Tickets also will be sold at the door.
