Nebraska State College System eases transfer for Dana College students

LINCOLN – Nebraska State College System Chancellor Stan Carpenter said Dana College students will be given special consideration for the fall semester should they transfer to Chadron, Peru or Wayne State Colleges. College officials will also assist the students with housing needs, financial aid and registration.

"It is very unfortunate that an institution of higher learning in Nebraska has to close its doors. This will greatly impact the community of Blair. We want to assist Dana’s students and will do everything possible to make the transition to our colleges seamless,” Carpenter said. “The Presidents of each institution are behind this effort fully and want to make sure that every student can continue to receive an uninterrupted education."

Carpenter said the three NSCS institutions will waive the admissions fee for Dana transfer students. In addition, juniors or seniors who have completed Dana’s general education requirements will be allowed to transfer these credits as a whole.

For a number of years, the NSCS institutions and the Nebraska Community Colleges have participated in a general education transfer agreement. Students completing their general education requirements at the community colleges while having earned an associate of arts or science degree can transfer to Chadron, Peru or Wayne State Colleges without having to take additional general education courses.

“We want to extend the spirit of this agreement to the Dana College students. Even though the Dana students will not have earned an associate’s degree, Chadron, Peru and Wayne State will not require juniors and seniors transferring this fall to take additional general education courses as long as they have completed Dana’s general education requirements,” Carpenter said.

Carpenter added that the NSCS has worked hard the past 10 years to remove the barriers for students who wish to receive a high quality, affordable education.

“The NSCS institutions are located in small communities and offer quality education through small classes and individualized attention. We want to make the transition for the Dana College students as seamless as possible this fall. Waiving the admissions fee and providing this special consideration for juniors and seniors will help make the transition easier for those students,” Carpenter said.
