Two students from opposite ends of the continent were crowned homecoming royalty at Chadron State College on Saturday. Jazzlyn Seumalo of Bremerton, Wash., is the queen and Alex Rodriguez of Carolina, Puerto Rico, is the king.

The two juniors were selected by a vote of the student body. The announcement of the winners was made at halftime of the Eagles’ football game against Western New Mexico on Saturday.

Seumalo, who graduated from Olympic High School at Bremerton, is a junior studying social work. She was nominated by the Campus Activities Board. Rodriguez, a junior who is aspiring to be a coach and teach mathematics and physical education, is a member of the football team and was nominated by the Residence Life Association. He graduated from Luz America Calderon High School.

The runners-up in the competition were Morgan Allberry of North Platte, a junior graphic design major and cheerleader, and Lanar Newman of Kingston, Jamaica, a member of the track and field team who is studying business management.

The other two top vote-getters for queen were Chrissy Black of Newton, Kan., and Micaela VanSkiver of North Platte. For king, Cory Beran of Sargent and Eric VanBoening of North Platte rounded out the voting.

The royalty competition featured 59 candidates – 32 women and 27 men – who were nominated by their respective clubs and organizations.
