Family Day features many activities
Chadron State College will welcome relatives and friends of its students as they converge for the institution’s annual Family Day celebration this week.
CSC office assistant Kathy Mason, one of Family Day’s primary organizers, said students and their families have a number of fun activities from which to choose not only Saturday, but at other times during the weekend.
For instance, participants will have the opportunity to cheer on the Eagles in four athletic contests. The volleyball team has matches Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. The football game kicks off at noon Saturday and will feature introductions of students and parents of the team and groups associated with it.
Prior to Saturday’s game, the college will give special recognition to three families with longstanding ties to the institution. They are the families of Ernest and Twila Griffiths of Scottsbluff, Malvern and Sharon Mizner of Whitney, and Lee and Virginia Wahlstrom of Chadron.
After the football game, Eagle fans are invited to two events at Country Kitchen Restaurant at the intersection West 10th Street and U.S. Highway 385. In addition to the customary post-game reception featuring appetizers and a cash bar in the banquet room, the Chadron Chamber of Commerce will host its second annual Eaglefest in the parking lot from 4:30 p.m. to midnight. Tickets for Eaglefest, which features a steak dinner, door prizes, raffles and entertainment by CSC alumnus Ben Treffer, are available at the gate or by contacting the Chamber of Commerce.
Other events Saturday include athletic jersey rentals, horse drawn tours and games in the Student Center.
