Faculty duo in concert Sunday

Chadron State College music professors Adam Lambert and Jim Margetts will join with other local brass musicians this weekend to present a varied program of brass and keyboard music. The concert will be in the CSC Sandoz Center’s Chicoine Atrium on Sunday, April 25, at 3 p.m. Lambert and Margetts will be joined on the program by trombonist Michelle Lambert and the CSC Brass Quintet.

“Adam and I began performing together soon after he was hired here five years ago,” Margetts said. “We discovered that our musical personalities just sort of clicked right away, and we’ve continued playing ever since.”

After building up a substantial body of performance repertoire over the next few years, the pair decided just over a year ago to pursue more extensive playing opportunities. They hired an engineer to create a professional-level audio recording and began making application to various arts entities. Since January, they have secured engagements on concert series in Utah and South Dakota during the next twelve months. Two weeks ago, the Lambert-Margetts Duo was granted Touring Artist status by the Nebraska Arts Council, making the musicians eligible to appear on arts programs throughout the state.

For Sunday’s concert, Lambert and Margetts have prepared music by several lesser-known classical composers. They will play a concerto written by Johann Baptist Georg Neruda, a Czech contemporary of Mozart, and a sonata by Karl Pilss, a German composer who wrote in a style similar to Richard Strauss. The remainder of the program will feature compositions by American composer Eric Ewazen, with the additional assistance of Lambert’s wife Michelle and Brass Ensemble members Nicholas Snyder, Nathan Snyder, Cynthia Gillespie and Zach Kirchmeyer. A post-concert reception in recognition of the musicians will follow the hour-long performance, which is being given free of charge.
