CSC student killed in automobile accident

OPELIKA, Ala. – Chadron State College student Garrett Schlichtemeier of Ogallala, a freshman member of the football team, died as a result of injuries from a one-car rollover accident early Monday morning.

Schlichtemeier was pronounced brain dead by Lee County Coroner Bill Harris at 10:24 a.m. Monday. He was 19.

Schlichtemeier was one of three Chadron State College students were involved in the accident, according to a news release from the Auburn Police Division.

On Monday, the Auburn Police Division and emergency personnel responded to the accident at approximately 2:24 a.m.

The driver and Schlichtemeier were taken by ambulance to East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika, Ala., Monday. The other passenger was treated at the scene and released.

“Speaking on behalf of everyone at Chadron State College, our thoughts and prayers are with the Schlichtemeier family and others associated with this accident,” said Brad Smith, CSC athletic director.

A funeral service will be Tuesday, March 16, at 10 a.m. in the Ogallala Auditorium, located at East B and Sixth Streets. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to a scholarship fund in Garrett's name. Online condolences may be sent to www.drauckerfh.com.
