College fills five staff vacancies

Chadron State College has hired five new members to its staff and one graduate assistant since the beginning of the fall semester. Following is information about each:

HOUSING

Mary Landen, Resident Director – Landen began her duties in Edna Work Hall on Oct. 1. Landen, whose maiden name is Connealy, graduated from Chadron High School in 2002 and the University of Nebraska at Kearney in 2006, where she was a member of the basketball team. In addition to her duties at the college, she works as a certified personal trainer and owns Core Fitness Studio in downtown Chadron. She and her husband, Erich, have two children, Tobin, 2, and Cella, 6 months. Her mother, Terri Connealy, is Chadron State’s women’s golf coach and her brother, Tim Connealy, coaches women’s basketball at CSC.

LIBRARY

Harvey Brenneise, Head of Public Access Services – Brenneise joined the Reta King Library’s reference and public services team Oct. 1, and is leading the implementation of a new information literacy course. Prior to coming to Chadron State, Brenneise worked 2½ years as the head librarian at Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden at Claremont, Calif. He also worked 5½ years as director for the Michigan Community Health Electronic Library of the Michigan Public Health Institute at Okemos. In that position he led the creation of an electronic library from scratch. Brenneise holds two master’s degrees, one in library science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1979 and another from Andrews University of Berrien Springs, Mich., in 1974. He also earned a bachelor’s degree from Andrews in 1973. He has two adult children, Bruce and Julie.

MAINTENANCE

Mihoko Hirose, Custodian – Hirose, who moved to the United States from Japan in 2002, joined the custodial staff Oct. 25. Hirose’s work experience includes three years as a photo printer for Fuji Film in Japan. Hirose’s husband, Robert Hinman, also works on Chadron State’s custodial staff. They have four children – Karen, 18, Mikaru, 14, Glen, 6, and Hina, 2.

Randy Jordan, Custodian -- Jordan began his new duties of care and cleaning of the Nelson Physical Activity Center on Aug. 30. Prior to employment at CSC he worked six years as a journeyman electrician. Jordan, a native of Erie, Colo., has two adult children, Jarrod and Lindsay.

Aaron McCarthy, Custodian – McCarthy began his duties of keeping the residence halls clean on Aug. 23. Prior to working at CSC, McCarthy was employed at Chadron State Park as a wrangler, leading trail rides on horseback. A native of Thedford who graduated from Garden County High School in 2007, McCarthy attended Central Bible College and Western Nebraska Community College. McCarthy is one of seven siblings and is married to Ashleigh, a CSC student.
