Child Development Center director earns national honor

A national organization has chosen a Chadron State College professor as the director of the year among campus child care centers.

The National Coalition for Campus Children’s Centers named Dr. Kim Madsen, associate professor and director of CSC’s Child Development Center Laboratory, the Director of the Year during its annual national conference April 7-10, at Orlando, Fla.

The NCCCC is a group consisting of campus child care directors, teachers and early childhood faculty. Officially formed in 1982, the organization focuses on the betterment of early childhood education, especially as it relates to institutions of higher education. This year’s conference was at Disney World.

Madsen, who has been a CSC faculty member for more than 25 years, is recognized as a leader in early childhood education. In addition to teaching and directing the center, she coordinates the annual Early Childhood Conference at CSC.

In addition to campus and community honors and services, she was selected to serve on the Governor's Task Force in Early Childhood Care and Education and was chosen serve on the executive board for Nebraska Association for the Education of Young Children. She also has secured many grants and serves numerous committees.

Madsen was nominated by the CSC Child Development Center Advisory Board, parents, faculty, staff, student assistants and community leaders.

Those who nominated Madsen said she works tirelessly for the center and children’s well-being with a caring approach, and credited her for vision, administration skills, work ethic and character.

A life-long resident of western Nebraska, Madsen earned a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree from CSC. She also obtained a doctorate in educational administration from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
