Centennial celebration getting under way at homecoming

Chadron State College is encouraging supporters to help kick off its year-long centennial celebration by getting involved in this year’s homecoming festivities.

The schedule is being finalized for the events that will complement the Eagles’ football game against the Western New Mexico Mustangs on Saturday, Oct. 23. The homecoming theme is “Building Futures Through the Decades: History in the Making.”

Dr. Rick Koza, chairman of CSC’s homecoming committee, is encouraging community members to show their Eagle spirit by joining the many activities. He also is asking residents and businesses to decorate their properties and to enter a float in the parade.

Among the homecoming events being scheduled is the revival of the Blue Key Review, the once-popular open talent competition. It will take place following the spirit rally in the Student Center.

Other events include the concert by country music artist Chris Cagle, the royalty competition, the bed sheet decorating contest, Late Night at the Pit, and the Eagle Run/Walk.

The CSC alumni office has a number of other events planned, including a brunch to honor Distinguished Alumni Award recipients, inductions to the Athletic Hall of Fame and reunion groups. Alumni may register at the CSC website.

Parade entrants are not required to preregister, but are asked to be on campus, lined up and ready for judging by 9 a.m. Oct. 23.
