Art Guild collecting pillowcases for Africa, Haiti

The Chadron State College Art Guild is participating in a unique program to provide clothing to impoverished girls in Africa and Haiti.

As part of the “Dress a Girl Around the World” project, the organization’s members are collecting pillowcases that will be made into dresses for the girls. The effort will continue through Dec. 17.

Guild members have placed collection points at locations throughout the campus and community. Campus locations are the Student Center, Memorial Hall and Old Admin. Community drop-off points are the Bean Broker, the Chadron Natural Food Co-op and the Newman House.

The Art Guild, which consists of about 10 members, recently wrapped up its “Pocket Full of Sunshine for Our Troops” campaign. The group decorated and stuffed 250 pockets from discarded blue jeans to be sent to military troops overseas.

The Art Guild also is preparing for its Christmas sale, an annual fund-raiser which features local arts and crafts. The event will be Thursday through Saturday, Dec. 9-11. Artisans interested in selling items at the sale may contact Art Guild sponsor Mary Donahue at 432-6325 or mdonahue@csc.edu.
