'An Evening with Groucho' planned for Memorial Hall
An audience at Chadron State College will take a step back in time on Tuesday, Nov. 9, with the antics of Groucho Marx, the comedian and film star who gained fame in the early 20th century for his wit and rapid-fire delivery. “An Evening with Groucho,” billed as being perfect for all ages, will be at 7 p.m. in Memorial Hall.
Marx is portrayed by Frank Ferrante, an award-winning actor, director and playwright. Ferrante will recreate his PBS, New York and London acclaimed portrayal of Marx in the fast paced 90 minute comic show. The two-act performance consists of the best Groucho one-liners, anecdotes and songs, including “Hooray for Captain Spalding,” and “Lydia, the Tattooed Lady.”
Ferrante, who ad-libs his way throughout the performance, is accompanied by onstage pianist, Jim Furmston. Ferrante portrays the young Marx of stage and film and reacquaints the audience with brothers Harpo, Chico, Zeppo and Gummo, Charlie Chaplin, W.C. Fields, Greta Garbo, Margaret Dumont and MGM’s Louis B. Mayer.
"An Evening with Groucho" is one of the many cultural and fine arts events scheduled for CSC's annual Galaxy Series. Tickets for the performance are available by contacting the CSC Box Office at 308-432-6207 or boxoffice@csc.edu. If available, tickets may be purchased at the door prior to the show.
