Coffey Anderson, a nationally-acclaimed recording artist who has gained a large following from his success on high-profile television music competitions, is coming to Chadron State College for a free concert this weekend. Anderson will perform in the Student Center at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 20.

Anderson, 30, qualified for the Hollywood portion of “American Idol” in 2003 and placed fourth on “Nashville Star” in 2008. He has released four albums.

The singer-songwriter from Bangs, Texas, delivers a brand of country music that blends distinct influences of pop, contemporary Christian, gospel and soul.

Opening for Anderson will be two music acts from the region. One is 15-year-old Kelli Bowlin of Cody, Neb., who taught herself to play guitar in fourth grade and has been singing in public even longer. She writes her own music, plays for church worship and has been a state competitor in the Galaxy of Stars talent search. The other is Acacia, a band of six family members from Scottsbluff that has been doing Christian outreach since 2003.

The concert, titled Winter Jam, is being sponsored by the CSC Chi Alpha Christian Fellowship chapter.
