Alumni art show to feature many artists

The artwork of more than 30 former Chadron State College students will go on display in the two galleries of Memorial Hall this week for the Alumni Art Show.

Richard Bird, chairman of CSC’s art department, said many of the artists are expected to be present during the show’s opening reception Friday from 4-6 p.m. The reception and show are open to the public free of charge.

Bird said the show will feature “a little bit of everything,” including bronze, paintings, photography, prints, ceramics and quilts.

Bird said the department began contacting former students to solicit their work about a year ago in preparations for the special show, which will help Chadron State kick off its year-long centennial celebration this homecoming weekend.

Bird said artwork has been collected from artists nearby and from afar. Pieces have arrived from artists who live as far away as Alaska. One retired alumnae used the exhibit as an excuse for a vacation, driving from Lincoln this week to deliver her pieces, he said.
