Officers continue to investigate burglaries

Published:

Chadron law enforcement officers are still investigating two burglaries that were reported on the Chadron State College campus late last week.

Lt. Rick Hickstein of the Chadron Police Department declined to say if any leads or suspects have been identified in the case in which an undisclosed amount of money was reported stolen Friday morning, Aug. 14. Hickstein said there were no signs of forced entry at the two locations, the business office at Crites Hall and the Sandoz Center.

The business office closed Friday for the investigation. It reopened Monday, but, because of the increased volume of business, employees were advised to wait until Tuesday to buy parking tags or make bill payments.

The burglaries occurred on the same week payments were due from students for the fall semester. Because of the disruption, the payment deadline was extended to Friday, Aug. 21. Classes begin Monday, Aug. 24.

While it is unknown whether locations in the community are still being targeted for burglaries, college officials are advising employees and students to exercise caution by keeping all valuable items under lock and key.

Hickstein said information about the case can reported to the Chadron Police Department at 308-432-0510, or anonymously to Crimestoppers, 308-432-0519.
