A number of events Thursday and Friday are expected to get the weekend off to a good start.

Karl Mecklenburg, one of the Denver Broncos all-time great players, will speak in Memorial Hall at 8 p.m. Thursday. Tickets may be obtained from the CSC box office.

On Friday, the annual Chadron State College Rodeo gets under way at the Dawes County Fairgrounds in north Chadron with slack at 1 p.m. and a performance at 7 p.m.

The CSC volleyball team will play Regis University at 7 p.m. Friday for the first of the weekend’s two Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference matches in Armstrong Gym.

On Saturday, the institution will honor three families that have had three generations attend CSC during a brunch in the Student Center. This year’s Family Tree Award recipients are the Steins of Chadron, the Dinnel-Schultz family of Scottsbluff and the Keenan family of Big Springs.

Saturday also will feature the music department’s pancake breakfast from 8-10:30 a.m. at Memorial Hall and horse-drawn tours at the Student Center from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Prior to the Eagles football game against Adams State at noon, each of the team’s players will be introduced with his parents at Elliott Field. The cheer team members and their parents are scheduled to be introduced at halftime.

Saturday’s rodeo performances will be at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Other Saturday activities include the football post-game gathering at Country Kitchen on west 10th Street and the volleyball match against Metro State University at 7 p.m.

The Family Day festivities will wrap up with the final rodeo performance at 10 a.m. Sunday.
