Chadron State College music groups will present a wide array of live holiday music this week.

The CSC Jazz Birds will perform its Christmas show at Wrecker’s Roadhouse in downtown Chadron on Wednesday, Dec. 9, at 8 p.m. In addition, the CSC Wind Symphony will join the choirs for the department’s annual Holiday Concert on Saturday, Dec. 12, at 7:30 p.m. in Memorial Hall.

Both events are open to the public free of charge.

In all, about 100 students will be involved in Saturday’s holiday concert, which is expected to last about an hour and 15 minutes.

Sandy Schaefer, who directs the Jazz Birds, said his group plans to play a collection of jazz and rhythm and blues Christmas songs, including “Merry Christmas, Baby,” “Cool Yule,” “Santa Baby” and “Funky Drummer Boy.”

Music faculty members Joel Schreuder and Adam Lambert said Saturday’s concert will feature many recognizable holiday classics, as well as lesser-known pieces, both old and new.

“We plan to present a light concert to get everyone excited for the holidays,” Schreuder said.
