High Plains Festival opens auditions for students
The Chadron State College music department is inviting high school students to try out for next semester’s High Plains Band and Choir Music Festival. Audition tapes for the festival must be postmarked by Nov. 16 to be considered.
The festival will be Monday and Tuesday, Feb. 1-2, 2010, and will include selections to the Honor Band, Honor Choir, Women’s Choir and Festival Band.
A music professor from Brigham Young University will join three members of the CSC music faculty to lead the groups. The High Plains Honor Choir guest conductor will be Dr. Kevin Brower, chairman of the department of music at Brigham Young University-Idaho at Rexburg. He also conducts men’s choir at the institution. From CSC, Dr. Adam Lambert will conduct the High Plains Honor Band, Dr. Michael Stephens the High Plans Festival Band, and Dr. Una Taylor the Women’s Choir.
Organizers say the event provides a great opportunity for high school students to work with talented peers and gain teaching and guidance from college professors.
Selection of students for the festival is made strictly from the auditions, and preference will not be given to selections from the previous year.
