A wide variety of music will fill the air during Chadron State College’s Galaxy Series of fine arts and cultural events this year. Before the music strikes up, however, people will have an opportunity to be motivated by a former NFL standout.

The series will kick off Thursday, Sept. 10, when former Denver Broncos great Karl Mecklenburg will give his motivational presentation “Six Keys to Success.” The event will be at 8 p.m. in Memorial Hall.

Mecklenburg, a defensive standout who played in six Pro Bowls in the 1980s, will discuss life lessons he learned as an athlete, including teamwork, courage and dedication.

Shellie Johns, chairwoman of the Galaxy Series committee, said organizers are striving to appeal to a wide variety of musical interests while expanding the artistic horizons of students, employees and the regional community. Seven events are scheduled between September and April 2010.

The Karkowska Sisters Duo will bring their brand of piano and violin music to the  the Memorial Hall stage Tuesday, Oct. 13, at 7:30 p.m. The other musical act on the schedule this fall is the Doo-Wah Riders, who describe their performance as “high energy country with a Cajun twist.” They will entertain at Memorial Hall on Nov. 10 at 7:30 p.m.

The second semester schedule features the theatrical presentation “John Amos: Halley’s Comet,” the Irish music band Slide, the instrumental ensemble Synergy Brass, and the a capella group In Pulse.

Tickets may be obtained by contacting the CSC box office at 308-432-6360 or boxoffice@csc.edu. The box office is open 2-6 p.m. each weekday and 5 p.m. to curtain on performance days. More information about the Galaxy Series may be found at http://www.csc.edu/conferencing/galaxy.csc .
