Dr. Mary Jo Carnot, Chadron State College associate professor of psychology, has authored a new book, "The Role of Identical Component Information in Visual Tasks."

The book, which was published in November 2008, was produced from Carnot's doctoral dissertation research.

Carnot, who earned a doctorate in cognitive and experimental psychology from The Ohio State University in 2004, began teaching upper level psychology courses at CSC in 2003.

Carnot said the research for the book included nine experiments involving more than 200 college students as subjects.

The book examines visual tasks such as matching two similar items or scanning a display and finding the item that is different.

"The idea is that having one component the same, such as one edge, is not enough. There has to be the shared component plus the relational information that's important."
