Community music groups gearing up for spring

Published:

Chadron’s community music groups are striking up this month. Members are being sought for the community choir, community band and Treblemakers children’s choir.

Auditions will be Thursday, Jan. 15, 3:30-4:30 p.m. for the returning members of the TrebleMakers, which was organized last fall. Auditions for children who were not in the group in the fall will be Tuesday, Jan. 20, 3:30-4:30 p.m.

The auditions will be conducted by the director Dr. Una Taylor, CSC assistant professor of music.

Singers in grades one through seven are being encouraged to audition. An additional choir, "Trebles in Training," may be formed either this semester or this fall in order to best meet the needs of the children, Taylor said.

Also on Thursday, Jan. 15, rehearsals for the community choir will begin in room 126 of Memorial Hall. The singers will begin preparing for their April 19 concert that will feature folk songs from a variety of cultures. Taylor said most of the music is in English.

The Community Symphonic Band, under the direction of CSC assistant professor of music Michael Stephens, will begin rehearsals Tuesday, Jan. 27, at 7 p.m. in the band room of Memorial Hall.

Members of the community band and community choir are being given the option to join for one college credit or none, but must pay a $20 registration fee regardless.

People interested in joining the band may contact Stephens at 432-6320 or mstephens@csc.edu.

More information about the singing groups may be obtained by contacting Taylor at 308-432-6484 or utaylor@csc.edu.
