Community marches for Martin Luther King Jr.
Chadron State College students and other community members march in honor of Martin Luther King Jr.
Among the participants for the Martin Luther King Jr. Day event were students of CSC and the Pine Ridge Job Corps Center. The annual activity is sponsored by the CSC Diversity Committee. Carl Cousin, CSC student services counselor who is one of the march's organizers, said participation in the activity was up from the previous year.
After the 10-block trek, the marchers gathered in the Student Center to hear readings by CSC faculty and students. Dr. Matt Evertson, CSC associate professor of English, read from "Dreams From My Father," the book authored by President-elect Barack Obama. CSC students Jovan Mays of Aurora, Colo., and Tom Oleksy of Valentine each presented poetry.
