Broncos great Mecklenburg to speak Sept. 10
Karl Mecklenburg, one of the Denver Broncos’ all-time great players, will deliver his motivational presentation “Six Keys to Success” to open Chadron State College Galaxy Series on Thursday, Sept. 10. The event will be at 8 p.m. in Memorial Hall.
The presentation is being billed as an opening event for CSC’s Family Day festivities which run through the weekend. While in Chadron, Mecklenburg also will speak exclusively to athletes from CSC and Chadron High School.
The speaker, a defensive standout who played in three Super Bowls and six Pro Bowls during the 1980s, will discuss life lessons he learned as an athlete, including those involving teamwork, courage and dedication.
Mecklenburg was a college walk-on at the University of Minnesota and a 12th-round draft choice in the NFL. The former Broncos captain spent his entire 12-year career in Denver. He was selected as the AFC Linebacker of the Year, AFC Player of the Year, and since retiring from the NFL has been enshrined in the Denver Broncos Ring of Fame and the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame.
Mecklenburg also recently authored the book “Heart of a Student Athlete, All Pro Advice for Competitors and Their Families.”
Mecklenburg was considered by many to be the NFL’s most versatile player and played the seven defensive front positions, often during the course of a game.
Since retiring, Mecklenburg has focused on his work as a speaker, and is closely involved with a number of charities near his home in Littleton, Colo. Through Karl Mecklenburg’s REACH Foundation, the speaker and his wife, Kathi, continue their charitable commitment to the children of Colorado. REACH is an acronym for Rewarding Experiences for All Children.
Tickets may be obtained by contacting the CSC box office at 308-432-6360 or boxoffice@csc.edu. The box office is open 2-6 p.m. each weekday and 5 p.m. to curtain on the day of the presentation. More information about the Galaxy Series may be found at http://www.csc.edu/conferencing/galaxy.csc .
