Awards being presented to five alumni

Five graduates of Chadron State College with successful careers will be given special recognition Saturday during the institution’s homecoming celebration.

Three of the honorees will receive the institution’s Distinguished Alumni Award. They are Dirlene (Steffe) Wheeler, Dr. Barb Dutrow and John Moulds. The other two, Zach Even and Tim Kamerzell, will receive the Distinguished Young Alumni Award. The award recipients will be recognized during a luncheon in the Student Center.

Two of the honorees, Dutrow and Wheeler, are Chadron natives.

Wheeler, a 1976 graduate, has been highly active in the Wyoming educational system while serving as the high school principal at Sheridan, Wyo. She was named Wyoming Principal of the Year in 2008-2009. Dutrow, who earned a degree from CSC in 1974, is a professor in the department of geology and geophysics at Louisiana State University. In addition to teaching, she conducts research of metamorphic rocks and completes experiments on how they form.

Moulds, who completed his undergraduate studies at CSC in 1965, is director of scientific support services at LifeShare Blood Centers of Shreveport, La. His accomplishments include 44 years of service in transfusion medicine and blood banking.

Kamerzell, an Alliance native who graduated from CSC in 2002, serves as an associate scientist in the department of pharmaceutical research and development for Genentech, a San Francisco, Calif., biotechnology company.

Even, a native of Green River, Wyo., who graduated from CSC in 2003, is a graphic designer for Brunton/Gerber knives. He lives in Lander, Wyo.

The two DYA recipients were athletes while attending CSC. Even holds the track and field team’s record for the hammer throw and Kamerzell was a starter on the basketball team.
