12 schools coming for High Plains Jazz Festival
The annual High Plains Jazz Festival at Chadron State College will feature a total of 20 music groups from 12 schools. The event will be Monday, March 23, in Memorial Hall.
The event begins at 8 a.m. and will culminate with a concert by the CSC Professors of Jazz and the Stephen Anderson Trio at 7:30 p.m. The school groups will perform throughout the day beginning at 8:25 a.m. All the performances are open to the public free of charge. The Anderson Trio and the CSC Vocal Jazz Ensemble will perform a concert at noon.
The high school and middle school students comprise 15 vocal and seven instrumental groups. Nineteen of the groups are from high schools while the remaining three are from middle schools. The participating schools are Alliance, Alliance St. Agnes, Bayard, Chadron, Douglas, Wyo., Gering, Guernsey-Sunrise, Wyo., Hay Springs, Mitchell, Sidney, Sundance, Wyo., and Valentine.
Members of the Anderson Trio, which has roots at the University of North Texas, will serve as clinicians. The trio features Anderson on piano, Jeffry Eckels on bass and Ross Pederson on drums.
