Bette Fisher of Paxton and Jake Julson of Quinn, S.D., were selected queen and king of the annual Winter Magic Formal at Chadron State College.

The royalty winners, who were chosen from a field of 43 candidates by an online vote of the student body earlier in the week, were announced during Saturday’s dance in the Student Center.

Fisher, who graduated from Paxton High School in 2005, is a junior studying to be a nurse. She was nominated by the Kent Hall dormitory.

Julson is a senior studying rangeland science who was representing the Wildlife Club. He graduated from Wall High School in 2004.

Julson’s wife, Chastity, who is a Sunshine Bible Academy graduate from Moorcroft, Wyo., and Grant Sasse of Altus, Okla., were selected first runners-up in the competition.

Second runners-up were Michelle Schultz of Grand Island and Jake Brummer of Hildreth. Rounding out the vote were Erin Musgrave, a graduate of Ord High School, and Rich Kunckel of Casper.

The dance and competition were sponsored by The Alternative Student Choice Force, a student group committed to educating others about healthy lifestyles.
