Frances Gonzalez, Chadron State College tutoring services counselor, will complete her term as president of the Heartland Chapter of the College Reading and Learning Association during the organization’s annual conference this fall. The conference will be Oct. 22-25 at Cincinnati, Ohio.

Gonzalez began her one-year term as president in October 2006, and will assume the role of past president after the group convenes this fall.

Gonzalez said her membership to the organization has been valuable in sharing ideas with colleagues and implementing innovative strategies for student success. The Heartland Chapter consists of learning assistance professionals in Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma.

As president, Gonzalez presides over the chapter’s meetings. In addition, she has completed a revision of the chapter’s bylaws and has worked on developing a Web site. The chapter will provide funding for Gonzalez to attend the national conference.

During the year prior to her current office, she served as president-elect. In that role, she organized the chapter’s annual conference, which was in Lincoln. Members of the CSC faculty and staff -- Dr. Clark Gardener, Sharon Rickenbach, Dr. Barb Limbach and Dr. Wendy Waugh -- served as presenters at the conference.

Gonzalez has been a member of the CRLA since 1996. CSC’s tutor program was first certified by the CRLA in March 2002. The certification was renewed in 2006 for a five-year term.
