Speech to address leadership by women in Muslim regions

Dr. Shafiq Rahman, a Chadron State College assistant professor of communication arts, will deliver a presentation titled “Women, Leadership, Islam and Democracy” on Monday, April 21, at 7 p.m. in the Student Center. The event is open to the public free of charge.

Rahman will discuss the challenges of women to assume leadership positions in Muslim-majority societies and how the situation affects the functioning of democracy. He will emphasize Bangladesh where two women have had high government positions for the past 15 years.

Rahman joined the CSC Communication Arts Department faculty in the fall of 2007. He earned a doctorate in mass communication and media arts from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale in December 2007. He taught at a university in Bangladesh for six years before moving to the United States. He has presented research at various academic conferences and his work has been published in academic journals.

The presentation is one of the CSC International Club’s Coffee Hour events. Refreshments will be served.
