SIFE team advancing to nationals again

Following another strong showing at regionals, the Chadron State College SIFE team is getting ready for national competition. For the ninth consecutive year the CSC SIFE team returned as regional champions after participating in the SIFE USA Regional Competition at Denver, Colo. The event was one of 16 SIFE USA Regional Competitions across the United States in March and April.

The 12- member team is preparing for the National Expo in Chicago in mid-May. SIFE is an international non-profit organization active on more than 1,400 university campuses in 48 countries. SIFE teams create economic opportunities in their communities by organizing outreach projects that focuses on: market economics, entrepreneurship, personal financial success skills, and business ethics.

The CSC SIFE team gave a 20 four-minute presentation to 20 judges on projects they completed this year. The projects were aimed at teaching others, including elementary school students, about business and individual success skills.

Some of the projects focused on teaching business fundamentals to students in the elementary through college. The projects included the Kids Record, 30 Ways to Save in 30 Days for Middle Diversity awareness, stock market skills, etiquette dinner, and a book made by sixth-graders called Clark Starts a Business.

The regional competition was divided into three leagues of six teams with the top two teams advancing to the national expo. Other four year teams participating at the Denver competition included; Black Hills State University, Rocky Mountain College, University of Kansas, Midland Lutheran, York College, Wichita State University, Abilene Christian, Lubbock Christian, University of Missouri, University of Northern Colorado, Benedictine College and the University of Missouri. Chadron State was the only Nebraska SIFE team to qualify for the national expo.

In addition to winning the regional competition the Chadron State Team also qualified as a top 20 finalist in the financial literacy competition.
