Rete-chromes to appear in Memorial Hall
An exhibit featuring the work of Janet Shapero, an artist from Waltham, Mass., will open in the main gallery of Chadron State College’s Memorial Hall next week. The exhibit, which is open to the public free of charge, is scheduled Feb. 4-28.
Shapero produces rete-chromes, which she describes as a “hybrid between painting and printmaking with sculptural influences.” She said the process involves applying layers of pigment, both directly as in painting and indirectly as in printmaking, to attain images on an open-weave backing.
While a faculty member at Utah State University at Logan, Shapero became an acquaintance of Mary Donahue, CSC assistant professor of visual arts. Shapero served on the committee that reviewed Donahue’s work in obtaining a graduate degree from the institution.
