Children’s book author David M. Nieves of Bellevue will be speaking at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 11 in the Sandoz Center at Chadron State College. The program will be open to the public without cost. Nieves also will be working with Chadron elementary students during the day on Monday.

He became captivated with reptiles and amphibians at age 8. By the time he was middle school, he was sharing his knowledge with elementary students in Bellevue, his hometown. Now, Nieves speaks to more than 90,000 people a year at schools, libraries, museums, zoos and nature centers.

In 1990, he created the Reptile Education and Research, a facility dedicated to the study of reptiles and amphibians from around the world. He travels widely to study and photograph these creatures. He has written two books, “Reptiles Up Close” and “More Reptiles Up Close.”

Nieves’ appearances in Chadron are sponsored by NeKota Reading Council, Chadron State College and the Chadron Public Schools.
