Rapid City vocal ensemble to sing at Chadron Arts Center

Dakota Voices, a Rapid City-based vocal ensemble will present a concert of unaccompanied vocal music at the Chadron Arts Center on Sunday, Jan. 27 at 3 p.m. The concert will be hosted by the Chadron State College Department of Music.

Dakota Voices was founded in 1997 by Dr. James D. Feiszli, director of music at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology at Rapid City. The group consists of of Feiszli’s current and former students who are dedicated to improving their individual vocal and musical skills while studying and performing a wide range of vocal music – one-on-a-part ensemble music as well as solo vocal music.

Dakota Voices has appeared wit hthe Black Hills Chamber Orchestra, at conventions of the Nebraska chapters of the American Choral Directors Association, and in professional performances around the Black Hills. The ensemble is appearing later this year at the North Central American Choral Directors Association convention and the 20th annual Bodenseefestival in Germany.

In Chadron, Dakota Voices plans to present three sets of repertory. The are music from the Renaissance, secular music from Great Britain and vocal acappella arrangements of contemporary pop music, including selections by James Taylor and Cyndi Lauper.

The concert is free and open to the public. Donations will be accepted at the door.
