Professor presents at New York conference

Dr. Shafiq Rahman, Chadron State College assistant professor of communication arts, delivered a speech about the experiences of non-resident Bangladeshis in the United States during a conference in New York City this summer.
Rahman spoke July 5 as an invited guest to the 22nd North America Bangladesh Convention’s annual conference. Ethnic Bangladeshi academicians and professionals from various parts of United States attended the four-day conference and participated in cultural events.
Rahman studied the Bangladeshi diaspora in the United States and wrote his doctoral dissertation about the identity and media use of Bangladeshi-Americans. Bangladeshi Community in New York City is the site of his ongoing research. He conducted follow-up ethnographic interviews and fieldwork for a book he is working on.
