American Indian culture will be celebrated Saturday, Nov. 22, when Chadron State College hosts its eighth annual powwow. The CSC Powwow, which has been postponed one week from its originally scheduled date, will be in the Student Center throughout the afternoon and into the evening.

The grand entries, in which dancers parade into the arena to start each session, will be at 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. The event is open to the public free of charge.

Sandoz Center Director Sarah Polak, one of the powwow's organizers, is expecting another large crowd. The event has been publicized on the Pine Ridge Reservation and at American Indian centers in Chadron and Scottsbluff.

Those in attendance will be treated to a free traditional Indian meal at 4 p.m.

In addition to a wide array of traditional Indian dances, the ceremony will have competitions for Miss Princess and Junior Miss Princess. The master of ceremony is Fred Stands of Oglala, S.D., and the arena director is Dean Good Buffalo of Chadron. They will announce the dancers and explain the ceremony as it progresses.

The date of the powwow was moved to alleviate scheduling conflicts. As a new feature this year, the powwow will be televised on Chadron cable channel 20 for Great Plains Communications subscribers.
