Musical duo to perform at Sandoz Center

Jubilant Bridge, a musical duo from the Denver area, will perform at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 15, in the Chicoine Atrium of the Mari Sandoz High Plains Heritage Center at Chadron State College. Sponsored by NeKota Reading Council and CSC, the presentation will be open to the public without charge.

Both of the Jubilant Bridge members, Willie Jaeger and Carol Van Alstine, are vocalists and provide their own accompaniment.

The mountain dulcimer, a stringed instrument played with hammers, is among the instruments that Jaeger plays. "Westword," a weekly newspaper in the Denver area, voted him "Denver's Best Local Folkie." He also has been a finalist in the national mountain dulcimer championships at Winfield, Kan., and has composed serveral instrumental numbers that he performs.

Van Alstine has written numerous songs that Jubilant Bridge presents. Her songwriting is bolstered by a strong background in poetry. Her voice has been described as "striking," and her listeners often ask, "How does such a big voice come out of such a small person?" Her musical experiences range from singing at the bottom of the Grand Canyon to singing soprano in Renaissance choirs.

Jaeger and Van Alstine have made several recordings. One music publication hailed their "Under Shattered Skies" for its "great harmony vocals," "compelling dulcimer playing" and "intelligent and thoughtful" lyrics.

Jubilant Bridge also will be performing at Gordon's Willow Creek Festival this weekend.
