The Chadron State College Music Department will be busy spreading holiday cheer in December. CSC's music groups have scheduled at least seven engagements during the month.

The action gets under way when about a half dozen of CSC's small groups will perform for residents of Chadron's Prairie Pines Lodge on Tuesday, Dec. 2, at 6:30 p.m. The groups include the saxophone quartet, flute trio, woodwind quartet, brass ensemble and a mixed ensemble comprised of Community Symphonic Band members.

Then, the schedule takes on a jazz theme. On Wednesday, Dec. 3, the Professors of Jazz will play at Wrecker's Roadhouse in downtown Chadron at 8 p.m. The Jazz Concert, featuring the Jazz Birds, jazz ensemble and vocal jazz ensemble, will be in Memorial Hall on Friday, Dec. 5, at 7:30 p.m.

The week's final performance will be the annual Mallets and Ivory Concert, which is expanding this year from keyboard and percussion arrangements to include participation by the brass ensemble and the Professors of Jazz. The concert begins at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7, in Memorial Hall.

One of the season's highlights will be when many of the department's larger ensembles take the Memorial Hall stage for the Holiday Concert on Saturday, Dec. 13, at 7:30 p.m.

In addition, the Jazz Birds plan appearances at the Pine Ridge Job Corps Center on Friday, Dec. 12, and at Wrecker's Roadhouse on Wednesday, Dec. 17. The concert choir will be caroling during Chadron's Parade of Lights on Dec. 12.
