Marsalis to play jazz at Chadron State

Chadron State College will be all jazzed up Saturday, March 15. New Orleans jazz musician Delfeayo Marsalis and his quintet will perform in Memorial Hall at 7:30 p.m. Earlier in the day, the Chadron State music department will play host to the Jazz Festival for high school students.

Marsalis is one of the most prominent last names in jazz, as he comes from a family that has become famous for producing music in the genre. He and three of his five brothers – Branford, Wynton and Jason -- and his father, Ellis, have become successful jazz musicians.

Delfeayo specializes in the trombone, and has gained a reputation for being a successful producer of acoustic jazz music.

Marsalis began studying trombone at age 13 and produced his first recording at 17. Now 42, he’s produced numerous recordings that have been nominated for Grammy Awards, and has toured internationally with many legendary jazz artists. He also has been involved in a number of projects to introduce youth to jazz music.
