Exhibit features work of Colorado artists
Two exhibits at Chadron State College’s Memorial Hall are featuring the work of a pair of Colorado artists who specialize in three-dimensional art. The work of Richard and Lauren Lipinski Eisen of Millikin, Colo., went on display in Memorial Hall on Monday. Richard Eisen said his work is the product of many eclectic sources, some of which are architectural and religious. He said that his work elevates certain industrial artifacts to an “icon-like” status.
His exhibit in Memorial Hall’s main gallery features coil springs, many of which are embedded in concrete and placed under glass.
Lauren Lipinski Eisen says that her work, which is displayed in the upstairs gallery, explores the relationships between landscape, architecture, agriculture and still life.
“In my encaustic works, references to each of these subjects are integrated into the surface of the paintings as dimensional collage elements,” she wrote in her artist statement. “Branches, reeds, grasses, seeds and other plant materials, as well as processed food items, are embedded into a wax medium to showcase their fragility in various stages of plant life, from embryos to post-harvest products processed for mass consumption.”
The exhibits are open to the public free of charge.
