CSC shows appreciation for medical professionals

Published:

Chadron State College on Thursday treated Chadron medical professionals to breakfast for their role in the CSC Clinic, the service that allows CSC students to have appointments free of charge. Ann Dockweiler, CSC school nurse, reported that she and other Chadron medical professionals responded to 431 appointments during the spring 2008 semester, bringing the yearly total to 844 visitations. That total is the highest since the program’s inception in the 2004-05 academic year.

Dockweiler also reported demographics and other statistics about the patients they served during the fall 2007 semester. A large majority of the students who use the service are traditional college age, 18-21, and women accounted for two-thirds of the visitations. Most of the patients made appointments for dermatology or respiratory reasons, she said. About 40 percent of the students using the service lived off-campus.

Chadron State President Dr. Janie Park expressed gratitude toward the medical professionals and said the access provided through the CSC Clinic is an extremely valuable resource for CSC and its students.

Harold Krueger, Chadron Community Hospital chief executive officer, reported that the CSC Clinic will continue to have a designated space in the current Chadron Community Hospital building when the city’s new medical facility is constructed.

The CSC Clinic is open by appointment for two hours each weekday during the fall and spring semesters.

Chadron State pays for the CSC Clinic with money generated from student health fees. While visitations are free of charge to the students, costs of x-rays, laboratory work and medication are the patients’ responsibility.
