CSC community music groups getting set for fall

Published:

Chadron State College's two community music groups are seeking members as they get ready to start rehearsals for the fall.

Before rehearsals begin, musicians interested in the Community Chorus and Community Symphonic Band are invited to a joint potluck picnic Sunday, Aug. 24, at Chadron State Park at 1 p.m. Una Taylor, who directs the choir, said the picnic will help build community, as the groups' names imply. People interested in the picnic are being told to bring a favorite dish, perhaps a guitar, their voices or just themselves.

The singing group will rehearse in the Memorial Hall chorus room each Thursday 7-9 p.m. beginning Aug. 28. The men and women will alternate sectional rehearsals at 6:15 p.m. each Thursday. The wind ensemble, which will again be directed by Michael Stephens, will practice Tuesdays 7-9 p.m. beginning Sept. 2.

As a change from years past, Taylor said members of the groups must register for community choir or band for either zero credit or one credit to participate.

Concerts are scheduled Sunday, Nov. 9, for the chorus and Tuesday, Nov. 18 for the band.

More information may be obtained by contacting Taylor at utaylor@csc.edu or Stephens at mstephens@csc.edu.
