Victoria Badura, a certified public accountant from Omaha, will teach business courses at Chadron State College beginning this fall. Badura comes to CSC after serving as an instructor at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, where she taught courses in management information systems and accounting. She also was managing editor of the e-Service Journal, a multi-disciplinary publication that covers topics relevant to researchers and practitioners of “e-business” and “e-government.”

Badura earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in accounting from UNO in 1999 and 2006. She is working on a doctorate in information technology from the institution.

Before pursuing her doctorate, Badura served as a revenue auditor for the Nebraska Department of Revenue. There, her job was to ensure that Nebraska businesses were in compliance with the state’s tax laws and economic incentive progams.

“Learning about all the different businesses in our state and meeting the people who make them successful was the most interesting part of that job,” she said.

For her doctoral dissertation she is exploring computer assisted collaboration activities, specifically convergence. The study of convergence examines how a group moves from a large number of ideas to a more manageable number, she said.

“Understanding how groups converge and how technology can be used to improve that convergence is important to organizations, managers and those who design collaborative technology,” she said. “In today’s workplace people are working in increasingly virtual environments. Those environments are almost always facilitated by information technology. Understanding how technology affects convergence will allow the creation of more effective collaborative solutions.”

Badura said she was attracted to CSC because of its close-knit atmosphere, small class sizes and commitment to distance education. She and her husband, John, plan to move to the Chadron area later this summer with daughter, Cassandra, 3.
