For just the second time in the 88-year history of Ivy Day at Chadron State College, two queens were crowned during the ceremony in Memorial Hall Saturday afternoon. The event honors the college’s outstanding senior scholars. Voting by the student body left Nicole Hagan of Ogallala and Megan Pelton of Chadron with the same number of votes. Thus, they became co-queens. The king is Tyler Dickey of Morrill.

The only other time co-queens were elected since Ivy Day was begun in 1920 was in 1978, when Janet Franklin of Beaver City and Kathleen Kelly of Alliance shared the honor. There have never been co-kings, although the tradition of crowning a king dates back to only 1989.

Hagan is a business administration major and is the daughter of Duane and Krystyna Hagan. Pelton is a human biology major and is the daughter of Ed and Stephani Pelton. Dickey also is a human biology major and is the son of Steve and Pam Dickey.

Attendants to the queens are Audra Liebig of North Platte, and Joslynne Simpson and Kylee Stanley, both of Alliance. Attendants to the king are Alex Laudenklos of Monroe, Daniel McDermott of Merna, Brian Rochelle of Casper, Wyo., and Chuck Funk of O’Neill.

Simpson and Tyler Thompson of Gering were the orators representing Cardinal Key and Blue Key National Honorary Societies, respectively. Speaking on behalf of the faculty was Brad Fillmore, a human biology professor.
